Similar to the werewolf or the vampire, revenant is a visible ghost returning from the grave to torture the living people. It comes out from the Latin word reveniens which means returning. Several stories claim that the revenant are mostly "attack" in Northern countries like Great Britain or Ireland. It is also known like an old Irish legend that revenants are returning for a specific reason.
Many stories say that the revenants are coming out of their graves for specific reasons or to hector or torture the alive people, mostly relatives or to people that did something to them. But like zombies or vampires, revenants are undead with evil purposes.
Most stories mention features like people who took wrong way in their lives or those who didn't believe in God. It is also mentioned that revenants were the ones who were spreading diseases. The results on their victims were usually decapitation, burning or removing their heart.
