Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland

I’m certainly sure that most of you are familiar with the Alice in Wonderland story. This story was written by Lewis Carroll and was first published in 1865 as “Alice's Adventures in Wonderland”

In 2010 a movie based on this novel and its sequel (Through the Looking-Glass) was released by Walt Disney Pictures. Alice in Wonderland is a British–American live action and computer animated adventure fantasy film which was directed by Tim Burton and was written by Linda Woolverton. Although this movie is a lot of different than the original story it didn’t fail to amaze the Alice in Wonderland fans.

Due to the fact that the movie had animation animal-kind characters the cast was consisted from both actors as well as voice actors. With Mia Wasikowska as Alice Kingsleigh the main protagonist, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. In addition to them many voice actors; Michael Sheen voiced the White Rabbit, Alan Rickman voiced the Caterpillar, Stephen Fry voiced the Cheshire Cat, Christopher Lee voiced the Jabberwocky and many others.

The film begins with a garden party at Lord Ascot's estate which is attended by our main heroin Alice Kingsleigh a nineteen year old girl. In this party Alice is faced with an undesired marriage proposal by Hamish Ascot. As being confused and unsure of how to reply, she prefers to run away, (needless to say leaving everyone in the party astonished by her sudden department) in order to chase after a rabbit in a blue vest. While chasing it she accidentally falls into a large rabbit hole through where she is transported to a world called Underland.

There she meets the White Rabbit, the Dormouse, the Dodo, the Talking Flowers, and Tweedledee and Tweedledum who argue over her identity whether she is "the right Alice", the one who it is foretold that will slay the Red Queen's Jabberwocky a vicious dragon on the Frabjous Day and restore the White Queen to power as told by Absolem the Caterpillar and his Oraculum. The story gets more and more adventurous as it continues as well as touching and funny.

This is the movie’s trailer:

Furthermore, this film reached profits over $1.02 billion all over the world, as being Burton's most successful film to date, but it also received controversial reviews; although being praised for its visual style and special effects, the film was also criticized for its lack in narrative, coherence and overuse of CGI. At the 83rd Academy Awards, Alice in Wonderland won the “Best Art Direction” and also “Best Costume Design”, and was also nominated for “Best Visual Effects”. Moreover the film managed over $1 billion in ticket sales and, as of August 2014, it is the seventeenth highest-grossing film of all time!

If you liked this movie then be prepared to watch its sequel, titled “Alice Through the Looking Glass”, which is bound to be released in 27 May in 2016.

This is one of my favorite scenes; the one where Alice meets Cheshire the Cat for the first time.

“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: " we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”
